About the Sheriff

Sheriff Photo

I would like to introduce myself to those who may not know me yet. My name is Joel Brott. I was born and raised in St. Cloud, MN. I graduated from Apollo High School in 1990. I knew that I wanted to work in public service so I attended Alexandria Technical College where I earned my Law Enforcement degree in 1992. I also graduated from the National FBI Academy in 2007.

I started my career in Southwestern Minnesota where I worked as a police officer and Chief of Police. I began working for Sherburne County Sheriff's Office in 1996. Sherburne County has been a wonderful place to work and I am very proud to be a member of this community.

My wife, Julie, and I have three sons. For eight years, we lived in Palmer Township near Briggs Lake, and we currently live in the west end of Sherburne County.

I look forward to serving the citizens of Sherburne County to the best of my ability. I know that we will continue to be a strong and successful community in the years to come. Thank you for the opportunity to work for you as your Sheriff.

Joel L. Brott

Sherburne County Sheriff's Office Substation

In October of 2007, the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office Substation opened in Palmer Township. This 3,100 square foot facility features: office space including a control center, interview rooms, a conference room, and a garage bay. The building provides a location for patrol deputies to work out of as well as a place for investigators to conduct interviews and work cases that occurred in the Palmer Township area. The Sheriff's Office dive team also uses the Palmer Substation as its headquarters and storage facility. Additionally, the Clear Lake Fire Department shares this building with the Sheriff's Office.
